Frequently Asked Questions

The Adopt a Senior program is the foundation's signature initiative. It funds adult day care services for low-income seniors who could not otherwise afford to attend. Sponsorships cover the full continuum of care: meals, monitoring, therapies, transportation, and social engagement. By sponsoring a senior, you directly prevent nursing home placement and keep a family together.

Adult day care is a structured daytime program that provides supervised care, meals, social activities, and health monitoring for older adults and adults with disabilities. It allows participants to stay at home with their families while still receiving the support they need during the day. It is not a nursing home and is not residential—participants return home each evening.

A nursing home is a 24-hour residential facility. Adult day care runs only during business hours, Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and lets the participant return home each evening to be with family. It is significantly more affordable than institutional care and helps families avoid or delay nursing home placement. Adult day care preserves independence and keeps seniors connected to their own homes and communities.

We serve older adults, veterans, and adults with disabilities who need daytime supervision, social engagement, or healthcare monitoring. We welcome people of all backgrounds and prioritize underserved and low-income individuals. Our Adopt a Senior program funds adult day care for those who cannot afford it. If you are unsure whether our program is right for your loved one, call 386-734-4442 or 386-453-4827 for a free needs assessment.

Both Sender Retreat in DeLand and Stay For A Day in Orange City are open Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. We are closed on weekends and major holidays. We offer flexible daily attendance or full-week enrollment depending on your family's needs.

Adult day care lets you continue working, attend appointments, run errands, or simply rest while knowing your loved one is in a safe, welcoming environment with trained staff. It is one of the most effective ways to prevent caregiver burnout, reduce stress, and allow family caregivers to maintain employment and financial stability.

Call 386-734-4442 or 386-453-4827, or use the contact form on this website. Tours are available during business hours. We encourage families to bring the prospective participant along so you can see the environment and activities firsthand. There is no cost or obligation.

Absolutely. We welcome volunteers as activities companions, helping with crafts, games, music, conversation, and one-on-one engagement. We will train you for the role. Volunteers are the heart of what we do, and every hour of your time enriches the lives of our participants.

Donations fund adult day care services for low-income participants, transportation, two meals plus snack daily, on-site therapies, activities, staff training, and program operations. Every dollar reaches the people we serve. We are a cost-effective, mission-driven nonprofit, so the vast majority of gifts go directly to care.

Where Do Your Donations Go?
